Research is key to the mission of The Cancer Council Queensland - research to further our understanding of the causes and prevention of cancer, to improve our ability to diagnose cancer early, to optimise the management of cancer and to improve the lives of cancer patients and their families.
The research conducted by our own Viertel Centre for Research in Cancer Control is vital to this mission.
In 2008 The Cancer Council Queensland will spend nearly $9 million on research including more than $4 million in external grants. All research The Cancer Council Queensland conducts and funds is only possible because of the generous support of the research community and the Queensland public through bequests, donations and support of our fundraising events.
Research grants are made following a competitive, peer-reviewed assessment from funds derived from fundraising, donations, bequests and merchandise sales. Click here to view research funded by The Cancer Council Queensland in 2008.
